Surf Interactive offer professional business hosting services based on the Unix platform. Our own servers use the ultra reliable, secure and efficient FreeBSD operating system, however we will happily configure and maintain any Unix based dedicated server. We'll happily install, configure and maintain the various flavours of Linux which are now available for use on dedicated and colocated servers.
We provide shared hosting, dedicated hosting and colocated hosting, and offer a managed hosting service
for all of these hosting services. We are one of very few ISP's capable of offering a managed-shared hosting provision.
Shared hosting offers a portion of a web
server which is shared by other clients, keeping the costs of hosting your website or website application to a minimum. Dedicated hosting offers rental your
own server, dedicated to you. The colocated server hosting option is for clients that wish to host their own server with us . For small to medium websites, with low to
medium bandwidth requirements (visitor levels), shared hosting is
usually good enough. For large/high bandwidth websites and complex, CPU intensive web applications we
recommend dedicated or colocated hosting.
Hosting Benefits:
The benefits of managed shared hosting are:
- Cost effective in comparison to dedicated hosting
- You still get the support benefits of a managed dedicated server, but within the financial benefits of a shared environment.
The benefits of a dedicated server are fairly numerous, but to list a few benefits:
- Large amounts of disc space and bandwidth.
- Increased performance – your site is the only website on the server.
- You
are able to install any software utilities you need, with shared
hosting you can install your website and certain scripts, but cannot
alter the configuration of the server. With dedicated hosting or colocated server hosting, you can
install whatever you want – or we can manage it for you.
For
support and fault reporting, let us know your fault or issue and we take on the responsibility of managing the
fault from there. For managed services we'll liase with any thirds parties until
the fault is resolved. Equally, if there is a problem or issue
highlighted on a web page or application, we'll log the issue and
manage it from there. The majority of support issues are very minor
ones and are usually resolved quickly.
For
help and assistance using our services, we provide phone and email
support. We also have an FAQ and tutorial section where we constantly
add new resources and documents. These deal with our various services,
but also with generic issues such as setting up email accounts and
manipulating images. |
